Pre-referral work-up
History
Accept referrals from GP's in relation to existing patients requiring assistance. However start-up referrals only accepted from Paediatricians or Clinical Nurse Consultant Gastrostomy Care.
All referrals should comply to referral standards and include in particular:
- Medical history and symptoms
- Known food allergies and intolerances
- Three day diet history
- Weight history
Tests
- Results of any tests appropriate for the referral type are helpful - such as allergy testing, gut function, bowel issues, renal dysfunction, general biochemistry etc

Urgent (Category 1)
? Patient has not eaten for three days or longer.
Semi-urgent (Category 2)
Unintentional loss of weight - more than 10% body mass.
Insufficient weight gain/poor growth in children.
