Dietitian Clinic: General Paediatrics
Outpatients | Nutrition and DieteticsThis condition is treated in the Nutrition and Dietetics clinic.
Pre-referral work-up
History
There are only two clinics run by Royal Hobart Hospital Paediatric Dietitians each week, so appointments are limited to those referred through Paediatricians.
All referrals should comply to referral standards referral standards and include in particular:
- Known food allergies and intolerances
- Three-day diet history (please ask the child's parents to keep a three-day food record and take it with them when they see the dietitian. This saves a lot of time.)
- Growth or weight history
Tests
Results of any tests appropriate for the referral type are helpful - such as allergy testing, gut function, bowel issues, renal dysfunction, general biochemistry etc.
Interim/GP management
To refer a patient with this condition, please see the Nutrition and Dietetics clinic page for the full referral process and templates.
- Encourage adequate intake and avoid over-restriction unless indicated
- Avoidance of dairy products in the presence of diarrhoea should only be temporary unless a clear allergy or intolerance is diagnosed
For more information please see the HealthPathways Tasmania website.
GPs are encouraged to refer patients to private dietitians or through THS Paediatricians.
Please note: due to our very limited services and current staffing levels we are unable to see patients for general healthy eating or overweight/obesity management. Please refer these patients to private dietitians.
