Pre-referral work-up
History
All referrals should comply to the referral standards and also include:
- History of symptoms or if stenosis found incidentally
- Blood pressure - current and history
- Smoking status
- Risk factors and co-morbidities including diabetes
- Neurological examination findings
Tests
- USS/Duplex scans
- Blood pressure
- Lipids, BSL

? Red location flags are clinical indicators of possible serious underlying conditions requiring further medical intervention. They may or may not indicate an emergency.
Urgent (Category 1)
? TIA, episode of amaurosis fugax or minor stroke require URGENT referral to the TIA/Stroke clinic
Urgent referrals should be accompanied by a phone call to the Consultant/Registrar to organise urgent review.
We will endeavour to see these patients within four weeks, or sooner if clinically indicated.
