Suspected Malignancies of Oral Cavity

This condition is treated in the Oral and Maxillofacial surgery clinic.

Pre-referral work-up

History

May present as non-healing ulcer or non-healing tooth socket

All referrals should comply to the referral standards and include in particular:

• Alcohol and smoking history
• Dental history
• Examination for non-healing ulcers, rolled margins, induration, erythoplakia and leukoplakia

• OPG

Urgent referrals should be accompanied by a phone call to the Consultant/Registrar to organise urgent review and the referral must be faxed.

We will endeavour to see these patients within four weeks, or sooner if clinically indicated.
