Pre-referral work-up
History
All referrals should comply to referral standards and also include:
- History of recent travel with details
- History of contact or family illness
- History of animal handling
- Co-morbidites especially immunosuppression or Diabetes Mellitus
- Current treatment and failed treatments
- Description of any rash
Tests
- FBE
- CRP
- LFTs
- MSU if urinary symptoms
- Blood cultures x 2 sets
- Consider testing for Malaria, Dengue fever, Ross River or Hepatitis A if indicated

Emergency
- Systemically unwell with rigors
- Systemically unwell with new onset confusion
- Systemically unwell with non-blanching rash.
- Recent overseas travel and new onset morbilliform rash
