Pre-referral work-up
History
Carpal tunnel syndrome (may also be referred to Plastic Surgery)
Ulnar neuritis
Tarsal tunnel syndrome
All referrals should comply to referral standards and include in particular:
- Duration of condition
- Conservative management undertaken
- Previous surgery on area
Tests
- Consider Nerve Conduction Studies
- Search for primary cause, e.g. TFT, Pregnancy, osteoarthritis

- Consider one steroid injection for carpal tunnel syndrome

Urgent (Category 1)
🚩 Refer urgently if muscle wasting or associated with pregnancy for the following:
🚩 Nerve entrapment syndromes
- Carpal tunnel syndrome (may also be referred directly to Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery or General Surgery clinics)
- Ulnar neuritis
🚩 Tarsal tunnel
We will endeavour to see these patients within four weeks, or sooner if clinically indicated.
