Clinic appointments
Red location flags are clinical indicators of possible serious underlying conditions requiring further medical intervention. They may or may not indicate an emergency.
Urgent (Category 1)
- Acute PID; Acutely unwell, pelvic mass, unresponsive to treatment (12-16 hours)
- Positive pregnancy test with pelvic pain with or without fever
Urgent referrals should be accompanied by a phone call to the Consultant/Registrar to organise urgent review.
We will endeavour to see these patients within four weeks, or sooner if clinically indicated.
Routine (Category 3)
- Chronic PID: Unresponsive to treatment
Will be seen in turn.
Information to be included in the referral
History
All referrals should comply with referral standards and include in particular:
- Symptoms including onset, duration and recurrence
- Details of pain, discharge, bleeding
- Past history of infections and surgery
Tests
- FBC/ESR
- High Vaginal Swab/Chlamydia smear/swabs
- Urine specimen “Chlamydia
- Endocx/urethral/rectal swab
- HCG
- Pap Smear, if due
- Ultrasound scan
