Outpatients
Information about outpatient clinics for the assessment and management of hand injuries, follow-up after hand surgery, hand/wrist fractures, proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint injuries, nerve compression syndromes, nerve injuries, hand/wrist/forearm tendon repairs, tendon pathology, burns, congenital hand conditions, hand contractures, hand/wrist arthritic conditions, scar management and wrist pain.
The Department will periodically contact patients waiting for an outpatient clinic appointment via SMS, with a link to an electronic form. This is part of routine waitlist auditing to ensure patient details are up to date. If you receive this SMS, please update your details. Outpatient Central Services can be contacted on 1300 522 809.

Scope
North
Our therapists assist with the management of a variety of hand conditions such as bone, tendon, joint and ligament injury, nerve conditions, arthritic conditions, and congenital conditions. The team also manage patients post burns or with scar management needs. The team will review clients via specialist clinics or in the Allied health department depending on referral source and need.
North West
Refer to Occupational Therapy in the North West Region.
South
Where possible, direct referrals can be made to Community Physiotherapy South Outreach Team to facilitate easier access to services for patients in their local community. Appropriate referrals include, but are not limited to, nerve compression syndromes, wrist fractures, trigger fingers, tendonitis/tendopathies, arthritic conditions.
Patients presenting with complex hand trauma, congenital hand conditions, burns or hand surgery should be referred to the Royal Hobart Hospital Hand Physiotherapy Clinic.
Referral process

Referrals can be faxed with relevant investigation results to Hand Physiotherapy, 9 Floor Wellington Clinics, 03 6173 0278.
All referrals must conform to the referral standards. Specific requirements are detailed in the individual clinic and condition referral guidelines.
Referrals are registered by the clinic to who they are referred and are triaged according to the specific clinic guidelines.
Appointments are based on clinical priority, acuity of presentation and risk of deterioration without intervention.
Where available, eReferral via HealthLink smart forms is now the preferred and only secure method of referral to the Tasmanian Department of Health.
