Information to be included in the referral
History
Same day insertion is available for a hormonal intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) in suitable patients (previous vaginal delivery or previous IUD under LA)
All referrals should comply with referral standards and include in particular:
- Reason for referral:
- For permanent contraception (Tubal Occlusion (LOT) - must include reasons for not using long term contraception instead.
- For long term contraception (a hormonal intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) or hormonal implant)
- Gynaecological and obstetric history
- Include results of required tests
- Details of current contraception if wanting a hormonal intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) same day insertion
Tests
- Pap smear or details of recent test
- For a hormonal intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) - High Vaginal Swab, Chlamydia PCR +/- Gonorrhoea PCR if required
