Northern Cancer Service
The Northern Cancer Service provides clinical placements for Medical Radiation Science undergraduate students specialising in Radiation Therapy and post-graduate Masters of Radiation Therapy students for clinical placements through the associated universities.
The Northern Cancer Service provides treatment across the WP Holman Clinic at the Launceston General Hospital and the North West Cancer Centre at the North West Regional Hospital. These centres are part of larger teaching hospitals and promote a strong culture of teaching and learning.
The W.P. Holman Clinic at the LGH has 3 Varian Linear Accelerators capable of delivering IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy), VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy) respiratory-gated radiation therapy, SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy), Respiratory Gating, a HDR (High dose rate) Brachytherapy unit, a Canon Aquilion CT simulator and the Eclipse 3D planning system.
The North West Cancer Centre delivers Radiation Therapy with 1 Varian Truebeam Linear accelerator capable of IMRT, VMAT, Respiratory Gating, 3DCRT (3D Conformal Radiation Therapy) and Electrons. The centre has 1 Canon Aquilion CT scanner for simulation and the Eclipse 3D planning system.
