The Centre for Mental Health training and workforce
The Tasmanian Centre for Mental Health Service Innovation (TCMHSI) will provide specialist training and education and develop workforce sustainability plans which deliver meaningful change for communities across the State. The TCMHSI will deliver training and further education opportunities to a range of mental health multi-disciplinary professions including nursing, psychology, allied health and medicine. This will help to grow and develop a workforce of health professionals that can meet Tasmania’s mental health needs into the future.
Available training and education
Ongoing professional development in the form of training opportunities is crucial to staff development and being a preferred employer. Consistent with the joint stewardship of the Centre by the Tasmanian Health Service and UTAS, the Centre is involved in the development of Master courses. In the first instance, this is a dedicated Master in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. It is anticipated similar offerings will be developed for other subspeciality areas, as well as certificate and diploma courses. The Centre will also play active role in continuing education activities such as grand rounds, and training specific to dedicated areas, for example trauma-focused CBT.

Learning circles for staff
The Centre has set up regular catch-up meetings for all clinicians and health professionals completing a research project within the SMHS. Learning Circles offer an opportunity for staff to discuss their progress and receive feedback and guidance from our research team. Learning Circles are intended to maximise learning by allowing health professionals to see how other research projects progress over time, and for health professionals to have regular contact with experienced researchers.
