2024 inductees -Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Honour Roll
Congratulations to the 2024 Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Honour Roll inductees.
Adele Hudson
Clinical Nurse Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Service, Royal Hobart Hospital
A decade ago, Adele Hudson was appointed the one and only Clinical Nurse Consultant for Gynaecological
Oncology Service in Tasmania. She is critical to Tasmanian women who receive a diagnosis of a gynaecological cancer walking side by side with them from the initial meeting with the Gynaecology Oncologist providing guidance and support, right through until the cessation of treatment or end of life. It is not an understatement to say that Adele has been and still is the lynchpin of the patient centred services provided by the gynaecological oncology team here in Tasmania and why Adele has been inducted into the Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Honour Roll.
Completing her undergraduate training as a nurse and a midwife on the NW Coast, Adele moved to the south of the state in the 1990’s and commenced nursing on the gynaecological cancer ward at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Nursing women at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, Adele was driven by a desire to help these women. With a strong commitment to lifelong learning and inspired by her passion, Adele consequently went on to complete her Master’s Degree specialising in Oncology and Clinical Teaching from the University of Tasmania. She has contributed to, and is part of the expert working group of the Optimal Care Pathways web portal framework to support the delivery of evidence based care for people with cancer.
Working closely with women who are experiencing the challenges of being diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer, she is very aware of the stigma that is attached to it. Educating the public and fellow health professionals in early diagnosis of symptoms is also foremost on her mind and to that end she participates in education programs with GP’s, community groups and is very supportive of the Australian and New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group, Survivors Teaching Students program which is now in its third year here in Tasmania. Adele is often invited to be a guest speaker at events such as the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (where she is a member)as well as community fundraising events.
