Emergency Department
This page contains statistics for the number of people presenting to emergency departments at major Tasmanian public hospitals.
Definitions:
- Category 1 - Immediately life-threatening (100% to be seen immediately)
- Category 2 - Imminently life-threatening, important time-critical treatment or very severe pain (80% to be seen within ten minutes)
- Category 3 - Potentially life-threatening, situational urgency or severe discomfort or distress (75% to be seen within 30 minutes)
- Category 4 - Potentially serious symptoms, situational urgency, significant complexity or severity, discomfort or distress (70% to be seen within 60 minutes)
- Category 5 - Less urgent or clinical and administrative problems (70% to be seen within 120 minutes)
For national reporting purposes, a patient with a triage category of Resuscitation (Category 1) is considered to be seen on time if the waiting time to commencement of clinical care was less than or equal to two minutes. Learn more about the national reporting measure for Category 1 presentations.
