Royal Hobart Hospital Psychology Service
Speaking with a psychologist can help people through their thoughts and feelings.
The Royal Hobart Hospital has a Cancer Psychology service for cancer patients, their family members and support people. Some of the most common reasons why people talk to a Psychologist include:
- anxiety and stress
- depression
- trouble sleeping
- social and relationship difficulties
- coping with their cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery
The Cancer Psychology service is free.

Royal Hobart Hospital Cancer Support Centre

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
During these hours the centre is staffed by volunteers from the Royal Hobart Hospital and Hospice Care.

About the Cancer Support Centre
The Cancer Support Centre supports people with cancer including, their family members, carers or friends with:
- a non-clinical place where people with cancer, can spend time, no appointment is needed
- find information about cancer, cancer treatments, supports, programs and therapies
- find information on support programs for different types of cancer
- find information on wellbeing programs like, yoga, relaxation, exercise, art, music or survivorship.
During opening hours the Cancer Support Centre is staffed by friendly and caring trained volunteers from the Royal Hobart Hospital and Hospice Volunteers South. There are no doctors or nurses in the Cancer Support Centre and no medical advice is given. If you need specific advice please contact a member of your health care team.
People with cancer can spend time at the Cancer Support Centre for free. Sometimes there are programs held at the Cancer Support Centre may have a small cost.
The Cancer Support Centre is managed by the Cancer Support Centre Advisory Committee. Requests to use the Cancer Support Centre by clinical staff for individual or group interventions are to be directed to the Advisory Committee for consideration.
