We provide services at:
- North West Regional Hospital – Burnie
- Devonport Community and Health Services Centre
- drop-in clinics.
North West Regional Hospital
We can assess and help you manage swallowing difficulties or communication disorders if you are:
- an adult or child (paediatric) inpatient
- Rehabilitation unit patient
- North West Private Hospital patient (if a comparable private-sector service is not available)
- adult outpatient.
Inpatient and outpatient referrals
We accept referrals from all sources. You can also refer yourself. Referrals may be provided by:
- letter
- a completed Allied Health Professional Services Referral Form
- in person
- telephone.
North West Private Hospital referrals
North West Private Hospital can be made by completing Allied Health Professional Services Referral Form.
Please fax the form to our Speech Pathology Department on 03 6464 1928.
Rehabilitation referrals
Rehabilitation referrals can be made by completing this rehabilitation referral form and giving it directly to the Rehabilitation Ward Clinical Nurse Manager.

Devonport Community and Health Services Centre
We provide the following speech pathology services:
- individual and group therapy
- consultative services and home programming for children with problems in the areas of language, speech, voice, fluency, eating, literacy and swallowing.
Eligibility
- Children aged 0-4 not accessing another speech pathology service or Early Childhood Intervention Services.
- School-aged children enrolled in private schools are not eligible to receive speech pathology support through their school.

We accept referrals from all sources. You can also refer yourself. Referrals may be provided by:

Drop-in clinics
- We provide a free consultation if you are concerned about your child’s development.
- You can access speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry and dental (Burnie only) services.
- These services are for pre-school children, but school-age children may also attend.
- No referral or appointment is required.
Speech pathology services
Our speech pathologists can provide advice about a range of issues including:
- feeding (for example, breast/bottle feeding and getting on to solids)
- slow speech development
- difficulty understanding your child’s speech
- stuttering.

The clinics run once a month, from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm from February through to December:
