- permanent officers

We employ around 400 operational paramedics around the state in shifts to ensure an always-on service. From 48 stations with 8 urban bases and 17 branch stations across Tasmania, we provide:
- emergency ambulance care
- rescue and transport services
- non-emergency patient transport service
- air ambulance
- wilderness and helicopter rescue services.
- public education.
Opportunities for paramedics
A paramedic is a health care professional who responds to and treats medical and trauma emergencies outside of a hospital setting before and during transportation to an appropriate medical facility. There are many different types of paramedics in Australia which you can learn about on the Australian Paramedical College website.
With a broad scope of patient caseloads, our paramedics work with:
- acute care hospitals
- health facilities
- organisations including police, search and rescue, fire services, Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Graduate paramedic program
We offer graduate paramedic vacancies on a fixed term, full-time shift work for a period of 12 months. You may be offered fixed term employment at any of our regional locations. The program includes a three-week induction program with mentoring. You must complete clinical assessments and undertake a driving assessment.
Professional development opportunities for paramedics
If you’re a qualified paramedic, we support ongoing professional development and programs including:
- IC Paramedic
- Flight Paramedic – fixed and rotary wing
- Wilderness response capacity
- USAR and CBR
Volunteer ambulance officers
Ambulance volunteers are at the very heart of our communities and our rural and outer urban stations. Volunteer ambulance work demands patience, tolerance, kindness and an ability to handle stress – and is often emotionally and physically demanding. We provide full training to ensure you have the required skills to assist in an emergency.

You must be:

- able to remain calm in emergency situations.
- able to deal with a wide variety of people.
- able to communicate effectively in all situations and environments.
