Interpreter services (NCS)
Do you need an interpreter?
All individuals have the right to receive care and to be informed about their health care options in a way that is respectful of culture, beliefs and values. If you require an interpreter, the staff at the Northern Cancer Service will arrange a professional interpreter for your appointments and treatment. Interpreters are provided free of charge to all individuals, including for patients who do not hold a Medicare card or private health insurance.
Healthcare interpreters are provided to help you understand the information being given to you, so that you can make informed choices about your treatment plan and the options you have available.
Interpreters do not add or remove information that they interpret or express their opinion during the course of the consultation and must abide by a code of ethics. Including keeping all information that is shared between you and your healthcare team confidential.
If you need to contact us via a telephone interpreter, please call TIS National on 131 450, state your spoken language and ask to be transferred through to the telephone number below.
