Transforming public outpatient services in Tasmania
About outpatient transformation
The Department of Health is taking action to change the way outpatient services are delivered in Tasmania to better meet the needs of our community and ensure people have access to the services they need, when they need them.
The strategy
The Strategy for outpatient transformation is now complete and clearly outlines the actions for improving access and quality of public outpatient services in Tasmania over the next four years.
The Strategy for outpatient transformation is now complete and clearly outlines the actions for improving access and quality of public outpatient services in Tasmania over the next four years.
The Strategy outlines seven key improvement streams for focus, and targets critical areas like improving the quality of referrals, enhancing the coordination and management of outpatient processes, and exploring ways to support patients outside traditional settings.
A key element of this work is implementing digital solutions to replace old, paper-based systems.
Over the next four years we expect significant improvements for patients and staff.
Priorities include:
- Making more appointments available
- Standardising our administrative processes
- Online bookings
- New models of care
- Earlier intervention care pathways
- A new e-referral system
- Enhanced telehealth and virtual care services
Delivering on this strategy will modernise business processes in clinics, improve waiting times for outpatients, improve patient engagement and support the implementation of more contemporary models of care.
This page will be actively managed and updated as more information becomes available.
