About us
About us
Move Well Eat Well (MWEW) provide guidance, resources and opportunities for schools and services to promote moving and eating well as a positive part of every child’s day.
For over 15 years, MWEW has supported Tasmanian schools and services to create whole-setting approaches to moving and eating well. Over 100 schools and services in Tasmania have achieved the MWEW Award.
Benefits of MWEW include:
- Access to information, resources, expertise and opportunities to support moving and eating well in your school or service.
- Being part of a network of schools and services and sharing ideas.
- Practical support to help your school or service reach your health, wellbeing and learning goals.
MWEW promotes positive, inclusive environments to ensure all children can enjoy food, eating and moving their bodies as part of learning every day.
We collaborate with staff, families and communities to help build sustainable practices and achieve positive health and learning outcomes for all Tasmanian children.
MWEW is delivered by the Department of Health and receives guidance from internal and external reference groups.

MWEW Refresh
MWEW is undertaking a refresh to update the program and respond to the needs of our school and service communities.
Throughout 2024, MWEW conducted a series of Consultations, gathering valuable insights from primary schools and early childhood services across Tasmania.
This work is driving exciting changes in MWEW including new resources, flexible participation options, incentives and opportunities for sharing ideas.
We are reviewing our membership and Award processes to make MWEW more flexible for more schools and services.
MWEW Award renewals and new Award applications are currently paused. All current members will retain their membership and Award status and continue to receive our support.
For additional resources or to learn more about how your school or service can participate in MWEW, please email us at [email protected].
Partnerships
MWEW is guided and supported by collaborative partnerships across education and health.
The MWEW Steering Committee provides strategic advice and support to the program. It has representatives from key external agencies and organisations.
Primary school and early childhood educators contribute their expertise to MWEW Advisory Groups. They provide recommendations and guidance to the program.
Our Steering Committee and Advisory Groups contain representatives from across:
- The Department for Education Children and Young People
- Independent Schools Tasmania
- Tasmanian Catholic Education Office
- Early Childhood Australia (Tasmania)
- Child and Family Learning Centres
- Education and Care services.
MWEW partners with health promotion organisations that support children’s health and wellbeing. These include members of The Healthy Kids Coalition. The Coalition works to improve positive eating and physical activity for Tasmanian children.
MWEW thanks those individuals and organisations that have supported the programs continued development.
The original MWEW program was adapted from the Victorian Government’s Kids Go For Your Life program and the program design and icons used under license from the Department of Health, Victoria.
