Secondary Triage
On this page
When you call 000, we use a process called ‘secondary triage’. It ensures that you get:
- the right care
- in the right place
- at the right time.
How secondary triage works
- We assess your 000 call.
- If you need an ambulance, we will send one.
- If you do not need an ambulance immediately, we will connect you to a medical person.
- This will be a specially trained paramedic or registered nurse.
- During this call, we will ask you the same questions as if they were there in person.
- They may still send an ambulance to you.
- Or they may provide you with an alternative care option.
- This may be a doctor, pharmacist or another medical professional.
