The core medicines identified are – Morphine (sulphate or hydrochloride) injection 30mg/ml and 10mg/ml, Midazolam injection 5mg/ml, Metoclopramide injection 10mg/2ml, Hyoscine butylbromide injection 20mg/ml, Hydromorphone injection 2mg/ml, Haloperidol injection 5mg/ml, Clonazepam liquid (oral drops) 2.gmg/ml.
When core medicines are out of stock
Palliative Care Prepared Pharmacies will minimise this risk. Pharmacists can try to source medicines from other Palliative Care Prepared Pharmacies.
National shortage of core medicines
If there is a national shortage pharmacists can liaise with prescribers to find an alternative.
Joining ComPPaCT
Pharmacists can sign up for the program by completing the online form. Once you submit the form you will be listed on the Find a Pharmacy register as Palliative Care Prepared. Make sure you have and maintain the list of core medicines in stock. You will be sent a window sticker that says Palliative Care Prepared Pharmacy.
ComPPaCT pharmacies
If you're a GP, you can search Find a Pharmacy when preparing prescriptions to find the closest Palliative Care Prepared Pharmacy.
Training resources
The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) and Primary Health Tasmania (PHT) are working together to provide associated training for pharmacists and doctors. There will be webinars and collaborative workshops for doctors, pharmacists and their teams across Tasmania.
