You must be registered or eligible to register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) if you practice as a:
- chiropractor
- dentist
- doctor
- nurse or midwife
- optometrist
- osteopath
- paramedic
- pharmacist
- physiotherapist
- podiatrist
- psychologist.

National healthcare boards
APHRA supports national boards that regulate these professions and ensure you have qualifications, skills and experience or practice.
- Medical doctors must be registered with the Medical Board of Australia
- Nurses and midwives must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Paramedics must be registered with the Paramedicine Board of Australia
Registration fees
We may provide a subsidy for registration or professional association membership fees and can provide support and advice to help you with your registration applications.
International medical graduates
To practice medicine in Australia, you must be assessed by the Australian Medical Council.
