Assessment Orders
An Assessment Order is a short-term Order enabling you to be assessed (without your informed consent) by an approved medical practitioner (generally, a psychiatrist) to:
- diagnose the condition of your mental health
- where necessary, to identify the most appropriate treatment.
An Assessment Order:
- may require you to be assessed at a particular place, such as a hospital or community mental health premises
- may require you to be detained in an approved facility for a short period of time for assessment
- may specify or provide for other matters (incidental to your assessment) that the medical practitioner making the Order considers necessary or desirable in the circumstances.
- cannot authorise your treatment.
