Notes
- In the interests of staff and patient safety, Code Blacks have a purposely low threshold and are therefore called for several reasons.
- This includes a large percentage of low-level, non-threatening behaviours that do not reflect an immediate personal threat.
- Across the major hospitals, there are tens of thousands of patient interactions each day, and any adverse behaviour consistently represents a small percentage of the total number of patient interactions.
- Planning is underway to introduce the implementation of a new Code Grey protocol across the state
- A Code Grey provides the ability for a planned or early response to situations that may involve violence or aggression, to de-escalate or to be on standby.
- The implementation of the Code Grey protocol across our hospitals is expected to significantly reduce the number of Code Blacks recorded.
