Community engagement
The Recruitment and Community Engagement unit of Population Screening and Cancer Prevention is responsible for the education of women and men in the community about the importance of regular cancer screening, while at the same time allowing them to make informed decisions about health choices.
Objectives
Our community engagement objectives are to:
- encourage women and men in the targeted demographic to participate in and return to cancer screening programs
- increase awareness of and improve attitudes towards cancer screening programs
- increase awareness of the key role medical practitioners, health professionals, corporations, community organisations and other influential organisations have in encouraging the targeted demographic to participate in cancer screening programs, and
- support community engagement and information through data and research.
Information Sessions
The Recruitment and Community Education unit delivers free information sessions on cancer screening and awareness to workplaces, community groups and schools across Tasmania.The sessions are a great way for organisations to encourage staff, members or students to be aware of their health and learn about cancer prevention, screening and early detection. Policy Monitoring and Advice
The Recruitment and Community Engagement unit also monitors national and international developments in cancer control policy to provide expert advice and recommendations to the Minister for Health and Department of Health and Human Services.
Current topical issues include prostate cancer, skin cancer and seamless cancer care co-ordination from early detection through to surgery, treatment and survivorship.
