Eleven new midwives have been welcomed to the health system, ready to care for the health and wellbeing of mothers and babies across the State.
The midwives celebrated their graduation at a ceremony in Launceston today.
Midwives play a vital role in ensuring women, babies and families receive the care and support they need through such a transformative time in their lives.
Tasmania’s healthcare sector is experiencing increasing demand for midwifery services, so this new wave of locally educated and trained graduates will help to ensure the State’s health services continue to meet the needs of Tasmanian women and families.
The midwives completed a two year, fast-track Bachelor of Midwifery for registered nurses through the University of Southern Queensland, which has delivered the program in Tasmania since 2017.
The Department of Health is delighted to welcome these new graduates to the midwifery profession which is such a rewarding career.
