Across Tasmania there are a range of physical activity programs run by local health centres, gyms and community centres.
Because these programs can change regularly, we suggest you contact your local community centre, health centre or gym to find out what programs they offer.
On a larger scale there are several bigger physical activity programs run across Tasmania.
Here are some physical activity programs currently available to older Tasmanian's:
Heart Foundation Walking (Heart Foundation)
Heart Foundation Walking offers many types of walking groups. Walking is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. No special equipment is required, and it is free!
The Joint Movement® (Arthritis and Osteoporosis Tasmania)
The Joint Movement® was developed by Arthritis Australia with the help of leading health and fitness professionals. Programs aim to assist people with arthritis and other related conditions.
Exercise Right for Active Ageing (Exercise and Sport Science Australia)
This program provides subsidised group sessions for older people. Sessions are run by exercise professionals. No formal referral is required.

Strength for Life (Council on the Ageing)
The Strength for Life program is available to everyone aged 50 or older or 40 or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The program aims to improve health, fitness and quality of life for older people through strength and balance training.
Parkrun Australia
Parkrun is a free 5 km walk, jog, run or volunteering community event that is held every Saturday at 9.00 am and is organised entirely by local volunteers. It is open to everyone and encourages people to get connected to their community while empowering older people to be more mobile.
There are currently 15 parkruns across Tasmania.
