The new state of the art linear accelerator is now
being used clinically. This dramatically increases the capacity of the North West Cancer Centre in Burnie to accommodate the growing need for radiation oncology services in North West Tasmania.
This contemporary treatment uses the latest technology to target cancer whilst minimising the damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. With the introduction of a second treatment machine, the current treatment unit will also be upgraded to also incorporate the latest technological advances available.
Along with the expansion of the radiation oncology equipment, the staff group is also expanding with additional specialised staff being recruited.
The treatment room has been appointed to provide a light and airy ambiance. The room features a sky ceiling and a large Tasmanian artwork, ‘The Meadow’ specifically commissioned for this space.
