Young people and kidney disease
In Southern Tasmania, we have a dedicated care program for young adults with kidney disease aged 15 years and older. We recognise that there are specific needs that are not easily catered for in the standard hospital-based clinic.
The Tasmanian Young Adult Kidney and Transplant Clinic has been based in the Youth Arts and Recreation Centre until recently. We are currently looking at alternative premises and availability to better suit young people juggling study, work and family commitments. The clinic offers reviews by specialist doctors, nurses, Clinical Psychology, Social Worker, Dietitian and Pharmacist to optimise care of Young Adults with kidney disease.
Parents and Carers are also offered support, both directly through the Young Adult Clinic as well as through Kidney Health Australia’s Facebook page.
We support Kidney Health Australia’s Youth Program. Here you can find information and fact sheets, resources and more. There is also a Facebook page.

Out of hospital clinic
Professor Matthew Jose holds an out of hospital clinic for young people 6 times a year.
Held at various locations outside of the hospital setting, the clinic is a great way to meet other young people also managing kidney disease and transplants and you can meet the local renal team too.
Parents and carers are also invited. Come and check it out!
