Hand Hygiene
Doing hand hygiene means cleaning your hands using soap and water or a gel hand rub.
It is important to do hand hygiene:
- When you enter and leave a medical or dental
- After going to the toilet
- After blowing your nose
- After smoking
- After handling/patting animals
- Before, during and after preparing food
- When your hands look or feel dirty.
Good hand hygiene is important in preventing the spread of infections.
All clinical dental staff complete education each year about hand hygiene.
Staff are checked to make sure they are doing hand hygiene in the clinics.
We achieve excellent results for hand hygiene compliance. Our Hand Hygiene Steps Audit results from September 2021 had a success rate of 98.5%.
