Redevelopment of the Mersey Community Hospital Outpatients Clinics and Operating Theatres has reached a major milestone, with the first new clinical spaces now open, as part of the staged handover of the new facilities.
Patients are now being welcomed and receiving the care they need at the new facilities, marking a milestone in the $41 million expansion.
The Mersey Community Hospital plays a critical role in the delivery of healthcare to the North West community, and the increased capacity is important in delivering more appointments and surgeries.
Construction in the new clinical spaces is complete and the new Outpatient Clinics saw its first patient on 29 July 2024.
The first of the two new operating theatres and the two new Endoscopy procedure rooms also opened on 19 August 2024 and are now taking patients.
The expansion will improve access to sub-speciality surgeries.
The Elective Day Surgery Centre will be supported by increased capacity in the Outpatients Clinic, which will include 13 new consulting rooms, six specialist treatment rooms, five dedicated Paediatric rooms, a waiting area as well as a new audiology service and physiotherapy gym.
The final works are due to be completed in early 2025.
