The W.P. Holman Clinic, Launceston has completed the final equipment installations from a State-wide Radiation Oncology tender. Over the last 16 months the department has installed
- 2 new state-of-the-art Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerators
- 1 new treatment planning system for radiation therapy planning
- 1 new state-of-the-art Canon CT scanner
- Associated quality assurance equipment
The second Linear Accelerator was installed in January 2021 and will be ready for clinical use by May 2021. In conjunction with the equipment installations the Radiation Oncology department has taken the opportunity to do refurbishment works to improve patient privacy and visual appeal of the treatment rooms. This has included the installation of two (2) sky ceilings in the new treatment rooms.
The new equipment will provide the department with ability to deliver cutting edge treatments, to assist in providing a state-of-the-art comprehensive service to patients of Northern Tasmania.
The equipment was purchased through the Commonwealth Radiation Oncology Health Program Grants, with ongoing maintenance costs funded by the State Government.
The W.P. Holman Clinic would also like to thank the Northern W.P. Holman Clinic Trust for their support of the refurbishment works and the Holman Clinic and Cancer Ward Auxiliary for their fundraising efforts to purchase the two (2) sky ceilings.
