A range of new emergency department (ED) performance data will be published on the Department of Health’s daily Health System Dashboard to drive improvements in waiting times and other measures.
From 31 January, the daily dashboard will expand to include information on:
- the percentage of ED patients seen within clinically recommended time periods,
- the median wait to be seen by their triage category,
- the number and percentage of departures from EDs where the length of stay was within the national target of four hours,
- and the percentage of ED patients who did not wait to be seen.
The daily Dashboard – which was launched in May 2024 and already includes data on ambulance transfer of care, ED presentations and ED admissions – provides statistics for the past seven days.
Reporting of all ED measures daily, rather than monthly, will allow a near real-time view of health system performance.
This will complement other routine reporting, such as reports from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the annual Report on Government Services.
The change is designed to increase transparency that will better inform patient choices, drive accountability and facilitate improvements across the Tasmanian health system.
