We are inviting people to provide feedback on the exposure draft of the Tasmanian Cardiac Strategy. The Strategy outlines our plan to improve heart health outcomes and enhance the delivery of cardiac services across Tasmania over the next decade.
The Tasmanian community is invited to review and share their ideas on the exposure draft of the Cardiac Strategy.
Your feedback is crucial in shaping our cardiac health care system and will provide guidance on actions of strategic importance to the Tasmanian health system.
The consultation period remains open until Friday 15 November with the strategy to be launched later in 2024.
This valuable feedback is being sought from across the Tasmanian community, with an emphasis on individuals and organisations that are associated with heart health care. Healthcare professionals, private and community providers, researchers, and those with an interest in heart health are encouraged to participate.
Why do we need a Cardiac strategy?
Heart disease is the largest cause of death in Australia, with Tasmania having one of the highest rates across the country. This is in part due to our population being older and the prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors in Tasmania being higher than the national average. For example, Tasmania has the highest rate of obesity in Australia.
In the next 5-10 years we expect to see increasing demand for increased cardiac services. The Tasmanian Cardiac Strategy sets out how we aim to address this growing demand and improve health outcomes through accessible and quality care across the State.
It outlines how we will seek to make these improvements by enhancing existing services, introducing contemporary models of care, investing in critical infrastructure and cutting-edge technology, and supporting our workforce.
What will the Cardiac strategy focus on?
The Strategy outlines four key priorities, along with specific objectives, to make required service enhancements and deliver sustainable improvements to cardiac care in Tasmania.
1. Prevent more people from getting heart disease.
2. Ensure timely detection and treatment of heart disease.
3. Better support people living with heart disease.
4. Use research and data to improve health outcome
The Strategy will ensure that our resources are being used with purpose and that we are committed to the Long-Term Plan for Healthcare in Tasmania 2040 reforms through Providing the Right Care, in the Right Place, at the Right Time.
