Here We Are: a pop-up café run by people with dementia

Here We Are connects people in the Bicheno community who are socially isolated, have a chronic illness, or who are living with dementia, and their carers. 

Run by the Bicheno Community Health Group, their activities include music, art and sharing stories. Here We Are used a Neighbours Every Day grant to hold a meal with 50 members of the local community at their pop-up café. 

The event showed that people living with dementia can participate and engage in community events. It gave them a sense of achievement, while the guest volunteers met some of the people they aim to help.
