The inaugural Mental Health Service Innovation conference, hosted by The Tasmanian Centre for Mental Health Service Innovation (TCMHSI) will shine a light on the future of mental health care across Tasmania.

The conference will bring together experts from across the state to discuss the latest research and innovations in statewide mental health services, with a focus on how these innovations can be used to improve mental health care for all people, regardless of their location or background.

The TCMHSI is dedicated to helping enhance and improve mental health service offerings for children, young people, adults and older persons across Tasmania. It aims to create and nurture opportunities for service improvements by working with key partners to focus on workforce development, training and education, research and development, and policy and advocacy.

We believe innovation is key to improving the lives of people with mental illness in Tasmania. We hope that this conference will spark new ideas and collaborations that will help us achieve our vision of a mental health system that is accessible, effective, and equitable for all.

About the event

Overview

The state of Tasmania is undergoing a period of unprecedented mental health reform.

This conference presents an opportunity to share our progress and challenges in establishing innovative mental health services. Mental health professionals, policymakers, consumers, and mental health stakeholders are all welcome to attend.

The conference combines two types of presentations: keynotes afford the opportunity for all attendants to listen to a speaker or panel, while most talks will be held in themed 70-minute sessions hosted in parallel across two streams. Streams will be divided between the “Sovereign” room and the “Marina & Gretel” room.

The program is interspersed with tea and food breaks, which offer an opportunity for networking and conversation between sessions.

The conference will cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Mental health care across the lifespan
  • Service evaluations aimed at making mental health care more accessible
  • Innovation from across all statewide mental health services
  • The challenges and opportunities of mental health reform.

The Maggie Awards

The award is named in part to honour the late Dr Margaret Tobin – an internationally renowned and inspirational leader in the field of mental health services in Australia – and recognises the symbolism of the magnolia flower, representing perseverance, dignity, strength, compassion, dedication and commitment.

The Maggie Award will rightly honour the outstanding contributions of staff within Statewide Mental Health Services, not only for the care they provide to consumers but also for their commitment to the service more broadly.

The inaugural Maggie Awards were launched this year with a call for nominations now open across four categories: Emerging Leaders, Clinical Excellence, Team Member, and Maggie Qualities.
