Sexual Health

"Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being related to sexuality. It is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence." (World Health Organisation).

What to expect when you contact Sexual Health Service Tasmania

Appointments are available with doctors, nurses, psychologists and counsellors. Appointments are generally made via the reception staff. Reception staff will aim to provide you with the most appropriate appointment by asking you whether you have a referral, any symptoms, if you have previously visited and the nature of your concern.

Walk-in Clinics are available in Hobart every Tuesday afternoon between 2:15 pm and 4:00 pm and Thursday morning in both Hobart and Launceston between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.  Patients are seen on a first in first served basis.

We ask that you arrive a few minutes early for your first appointment to allow time to make your sexual health file. Please allow one hour for first appointments.

On your first appointment a history will be taken and, in consultation with you, decisions about your health care needs will be made.

You must attend the clinic in person for results of blood tests. Other results can be provided over the telephone or if you have consented to results via SMS they will be forwarded to you within 7 days.

Sexual Health Service Tasmania is staffed Monday to Friday from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm.  Clinic times vary from site to site so please contact your local office for details.
