How to become a Midwife in Tasmania

The Office of the Chief Nurse and Midwife supports midwifery education in Tasmania in partnership with the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).

2021 Bachelor of Midwifery - Graduate Entry

An online information session is scheduled for 6 August 2020 between 4 and 5pm.

USQ provides the Bachelor of Midwifery (graduate entry) to Registered Nurses. The Bachelor of Midwifery is a two year course that:

  • delivers a flexible external supported program
  • is completed full time over 4 semesters via an external on-line study modes
  • partners with Tasmanian maternity services to support local clinical placements
  • holds 3 day residential schools at the beginning of semesters 1, 2 and 3 (attendance at residential schools is mandatory)
  • is accredited with Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) against the 2014 standards i.e. theory 50% and Midwifery Practice 50%
